Death and Resurrection

Death is an unfortunate and sometimes unavoidable outcome for a character. Fortunately, thanks to spells like raise dead and resurrection, it need not always be a permanent condition. There are, however, a few stipulations that must be met before a character can be raised from the dead, and the character’s patron deity plays a large role in this.

With the exception of miracle or wish, a character can only be raised from the dead if the ceremony to do so is being performed within a temple, church, or other holy place of worship devoted to the character’s patron deity. In this respect, temples to Pharasma act as a kind of neutral ground, and can be used to raise characters who don’t claim a patron deity (including atheists).

Even if these conditions are met, there may be other requirements that must be met before a character can be raised. The presiding cleric may require some convincing before raising a character of seeming unimportance, or the surviving party members may be sent on a quest for material components to the spell.
